Q: How can I tell if I have hail damage on my roof?
A: Determining whether or not shingles have hail damage is nearly impossible without getting up on the roof and doing a close-up inspection. However, look closely at the downspouts and gutters. Sometimes, hail storms will leave little dings in the metal. Also, you may see a build-up of shingle granules in the gutters and dispersed from the downspouts.
Hail stone impacts create dimples in the singles that are difficult to distinguish from other blemishes that form on shingles, such as blistering, or "algae splatter". Only experience roofing contractors can determine whether or not you have hail damage for certain.
